McLaughlin serves as a celebrant for threshold events, including weddings, funerals/memorials, coming of age celebrations, and infant blessings. His style is earth-based and centered around an elemental altar of fire and water. He often works alongside his wife, singer Madi Sato. The couple hosts these special events at the Praising Earth Center for Arts & Nature in the Rio en Medio valley of northern New Mexico.
